"As William James suggested, Genius means making a shift in your thinking so that you let go of those old habits (of thinking about your abilities and potentials) and open yourself up to the possibilities of greatness."

                             ~ Dr. Wayne Dyer

Completing Unfinished Dreams

Last Friday, I (Megan) threw out my back during a tennis game. Luckily, I had a previously scheduled massage right after tennis.  During my massage my therapist mentioned to me that this injury felt emotional.  I began to talk and very soon was experiencing waves of grief about the loss of my dream of being an Olympian.  I know that I have a body genius and an athletic genius that never fully got expressed.

What I realized is that the grief of not completing this dream has been holding a tremendous amount of space in my body.   I intellectually knew that this was an incomplete and I even created another vehicle for my athletic genius through tennis.  But, I had never fully felt the grief I had about "giving that up." I'm aware that all of that happened for a reason and that my life purpose isn't about being a professional athlete.  All that being said the teenager in me was pretty damn disappointed.  I never honored the loss of that dream.

Cut to present day ...

I'm currently pursuing my dream of becoming an international speaker and I've noticed a lot of fear and procrastination coming up.  What I realized is, my back going out, was a gift to let me see what was taking up space in my body.  With all that grief how could I possibly have space for what wants to happen in my life today.  Because this was left incomplete it also jeopardized my ability to trust myself that I could follow through on my dreams today.

In our genius work, Philip and I talk a lot about completions as a "way to free up energy and space."  Unfulfilled dreams that we haven't gotten complete with can keep us from moving into our full genius in present day. We can also use them as an excuse to not risk expressing our genius today.  By facing into what we didn't fully express we can free ourselves up to pursue our dreams of the present, even and especially if we no longer want that today.

TRY THIS

*************

Make a list of all the things that you wanted to be or express that you didn't go all the way with. Make sure to put down the 3-year-old dream of wanting to be a fire engine.  This counts to your 3-year-old.

Once you have made your list, face into each one take some deep breaths and declare that dream complete.

Tune into your body and notice if there are any feelings or tensions and express those completely. You could voice them to a friend, write, paint, sing, or dance them out.

If you still want and can pursue this dream then recommit to it.

Give yourself lots of time and space for this.  You may work on this over a few days or even weeks.

When you are complete with your list take a few moments and appreciate yourself for making space for your current day dreams. Ask yourself the question "What wants to fill this space now?"  Open up to your possibilities of greatness.

We'd love to hear about your experiences.  Email us today!

Warmly,

Philip and Megan
